QUESTIONS

What are bio pellets for horse bedding?

In simple terms, horse owners use bio pellets as straw pellet bedding. Once lightly dampened, they expand into a soft, absorbent, low dust bed that helps keep stables cleaner and drier. They’re also a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to wood-based bedding.

What are Biobedding straw pellets made from?

Biobedding straw pellets are made from 100% British wheat straw, grown and pelleted on our Kent farm. Because they’re completely natural, they contain no additives or chemicals and are fully biodegradable.

How absorbent are bio pellets compared to other bedding?

One of the biggest benefits is absorbency. Biobedding can absorb over 600% of its own weight within 15 minutes, which means it often outperforms straw, shavings and many wood pellet beddings. In addition, it can fluff up to 900% of its original size, creating a soft bed.

How do I use bio pellets in a stable?

To get started, spread the pellets evenly across the stable floor and lightly dampen them to activate expansion. Once the pellets break down, they form a soft, springy bed that helps separate wet from clean bedding. For extra guidance, you can also read our step-by-step guide here.

Do bio pellets reduce mucking out time?

Yes. Because wet areas clump together, you only remove the soiled bedding. As a result, most customers spend less time mucking out compared to traditional bedding.

How often do bio pellets need topping up?

In most cases, you only need to top up once a week or less. However, your horse, stable size and daily routine will affect this. The good news is bio pellets are designed to last longer than many conventional bedding types.

Are bio pellets low dust?

Yes. Biobedding straw pellets are naturally low dust, making them a great choice for horses with respiratory sensitivities. In addition, Bio Pellets go through four separate vacuum processes, which helps reduce dust even further.

Do bio pellets help with stable smells?

Yes. Thanks to their high absorbency, they lock in moisture and ammonia. This means stables stay fresher for longer with fewer lingering odours. in moisture and amm.

Are bio pellets comfortable for horses?

Absolutely. Once expanded, bio pellets create a soft, cushioned and springy surface. As a result, many horses feel comfortable lying down while staying clean and dry.

Are bio pellets environmentally friendly?

Yes. Not only are they made from renewable British straw and produced locally, but they’re also fully biodegradable. Better still, once used, Bio Pellets can be reused as an organic soil conditioner or fertiliser.

How are bio pellets delivered?

We deliver bio pellets in bulk bags or pallets. In most cases, delivery takes up to 3 working days. Please also make sure you have access suitable for an 18 tonne lorry.

Can I try bio pellets before ordering a full pallet?
